The Heineken Cup brings together Europe's finest outfits, so it seems only suitable that the continent's highest quality collisions come from the biggest of tournaments north of the equator.

This week, Castres and Ospreys may not have been able to light up the park in terms of attacking pedigree, but more than made up for a lack of tries with an incredibly physical game fraught with foul play at times.

Elsewhere, the South Africa Sevens leg of the series kicked off and threw in its share of big hits, while Cardiff, Glasgow Warriors, Exeter Chiefs and Toulon also produced their input of crunching tackles.

It's an all Northern Hemisphere at this stage of the calendar year, but it won't be long until the titans of the south are once again mauling their way onto the records.

Buckle up and enjoy the biggest hits in world rugby this week.
