Tiger Woods finished down the field at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. The American failed to build on an excellent first round of 68, following up with scores of 73, 70 and 71 to finish on six under par for the tournament and tied in 41st place overall.

After a forgettable performance at the Farmers Insurance Open, an event which saw him miss the 54-hole cut after racking up a third-round 79 at Torrey Pines, Tiger will be happy to make through to the weekend this time round.

But he bemoaned his luck after the conclusion of his final round and didn't seem too disheartened about his overall performance in Dubai:

His second showing of the season certainly represented an improvement, and he will be hoping to build on this solid performance as the season gets into full swing in the coming weeks.

Prior to the turnament, Woods admitted adapting his game due to the pitfalls of old age. The world No. 1, who is now 38 years old, admitted he is working on making his backswing shorter after the latest tournament got underway. Per Sky Sports:

I've always played my best from a shorter position.

Looking back at my younger days on tour it as even shorter than it is now, the only difference is I can't wheel on it like I used to.

Whether or not the slight adjustment will make a significant difference remains to be seen for the remainder of the campaign, but there were certainly signs here that his game is on the up and 2014 could be a prosperous year for the world No.1.
