Before the game began, many pegged Monday's Group A matchup between Spain and Brazil to be a battle of FIBA powerhouses.

It took very little time for Spain to establish itself as the true juggernaut.

Staying undefeated, Spain defeated Brazil 82 to 63, looking flawless from tip to buzzer. Brazil, once thought to be a top team and medal contender, now has serious problems to address before they (presumably) move on to the knockout stage.

Pau Gasol led the way for the Spanish national team, with 26 points and nine rebounds in 29 minutes. He also contributed three blocks and a defensive effort nearly as impressive as his offensive output. Still, Spain's rout was anything but a one-man show. Spain's Sergio Rodriguez, Juan Carlos Navarro, Jose Calderon and Rudy Fernandez combined to score 33, shooting 7 of 12 from deep.

Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka contributed eight and five points respectively, and five rebounds apiece.

Brazil, on the other hand, failed to find balance or a leader on the offensive end—and anything resemblant of either defensively.

Leandro Barbosa led the way with 11 points on 71 percent shooting, while Anderson Varejao headlined Brazil's interior with 10. Neither Tiago Splitter nor Nene Hilario rose to the occasion, with the latter struggling noticeably on both ends.

Still, it's early in the tournament, and both teams remain virtual locks to finish in the top four—what's needed to advance—of Group A.

Spain (3-0) now looks to continue its dominance against France on Wednesday, while Brazil (2-1) looks to bounce back against Serbia.
